I am one of those people whom you wish to help with this stimulus package. I have a wife and three children, I made quite a bit less last year than in 2007. Tough times. Economic hardships are a very personal and poignant reality. This is no one else’s fault but my own, I claim my mistakes.
This new tone that you have brought to Washington leaves me just a little puzzled. A few years ago our nation rushed to war after only six months and two congressional affirmations of the President’s policy. That was clearly a bi-partisan issue. The fiscal policies of the last two decades are as bi-partisan as can possibly be. However the present circumstance is the result of eight years of President Bush’s failed economic policy.
Dissent IS Patriotic. I recall that being quite the rally point on the left in 2003 and all through out the war in Iraq. Now however the situation is so dire that no opposition can be brooked, any debate is delay and the cost of inaction is to terrible to contemplate.
Why can’t we wait six days to pass this package? Not six months, not six days. Because you know that this is not the change that the American People want. If you were confident in our support for this very important legislation you wouldn’t be opposed to giving us six days to look it over.
Not only are you quick to judge us incapable of comprehending the pressing necessity and brilliance of your stimulus package but there are calls for opposing voices to be silenced, with the fairness doctrine. Your policies will have to stand up to public critique sooner or later, unless you plan on censoring other forms of media as well.
“Buy American,” wasn’t so popular with our European Allies. That was quickly pulled from this legislation, when did their opinion become so much more important than the 46% of Americans who voted for the other guy. If 46% is too small a percentage for you to listen to, how about the nearly 60% of Americans who have serious misgivings about this legislation?
Six days, is that too much to ask?

WE WILL BE PHARAOH’S SERVANTS
There was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very sore, so that the land of Egypt and all the land of Canaan fainted by reason of the famine. And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the corn which they bought: and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s house. And when money failed in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came unto Joseph, and said, “Give us bread: for why should we die in they presence? For the money faileth.”
And Joseph said, “Give your cattle; and I will give you for your cattle, if money fail.” And they brought their cattle unto Joseph: and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for horses, and for the flocks, and for the cattle of the herds, and for the asses: and he fed them with bread for all their cattle for that year.
When that year was ended, they came unto him the second year, and said unto him, “We will not hide it from my lord, how that our money is spent; my lord also hath our herds of cattle; there is not ought left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies, and our lands: wherefore shall we die before thine eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and not die, that the land be not desolate.” And Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for the Egyptians sold every man his field, because the famine prevailed over them: so the land became Pharaoh’s.
And as for the people, he removed them to cities from one end of the borders of Egypt even to the other end thereof. Only the land of the priests bought he not; for the priests had a portion assigned them of Pharaoh, and did eat their portion which Pharaoh gave them; wherefore they sold not their lands. Then Joseph said unto the people, “Behold, I have bought you this day and your land for Pharaoh: lo, here is seed for you, and ye shall sow the land. And it shall come to pass in the increase, that ye shall give the fifth part unto Pharaoh, and four parts shall be your own, for seed of the field, and for food for your little ones.”
And they said, “Thou hast saved our lives: let us find grace in the sight of my lord, and WE WILL BE PHARAOH’S SERVANTS.”
President Obama said, “Companies sustained these people for years.” The people of Indiana were sustained by industry? Not the Government. Get out of here!
President Obama said that this stimulus package would, “Save or create four million jobs.” So what he’s saying is that he no longer believes that this bill will create four million jobs. He has to be able to claim that he “Saved” four million jobs. Pretty slick.
President Obama said, “Government is the only entity with the resources,” to save this nation. I thought that Government only has resources by taking them from the people. Taxation is the only supply of Government resources. So President Obama spending your money will stimulate the economy. You are not qualified to determine how best to spend your money, only he is. So there isn’t enough money in the U.S. Treasury to cover this bill, President Obama, has thought that out as well, this plan is, “For the future of our children and grandchildren.”
And we will be the federal government’s servants, we and our children, forever. I stand now and proudly pledge my tax support as well as that of my children and grandchildren to this stimulus package. Because I believe my job will be one of the four million jobs saved and that is worth my grandchildren paying for it.
Thank you, Mr. President, I’ll never be able to thank you enough.

State Employees, Want Some Cheese With That Whine?

California State Employees are a perfect example of why Government is not the solution to the Nation’s economic woes. The State of California is Billions of Dollars in the Red. When a Company is hugely in the red it cuts its workforce. The California unemployment rate is 9.3 and these furloughs will reduce state workers salary by 9.2 percent. This seems like a reasonable ratio.
NEWS FLASH! State workers if you worked for someone other than the benevolent State of California they would slash the workforce by 15%. If I were an employer I’d make sure the most discontent 15% were gone tomorrow, they are likely the least efficient of my employees.
Second point of note, although I really feel your pain, if I worked for a corporation that is in as bad a shape as California I’d be looking for another job because they would be in serious danger of shutting down, indefinitely, that could mean a reduction of your salary by 100%. No call back, no “Back to work on Monday” or any other day. You and thousands of other employees with comparable qualifications trying to find a place in an economy that is shedding jobs.
I’m sure that the 9.3 percent of Californians who are unemployed would gladly trade their status for your 9.2% reduction in pay.
Last point, to those of you who work at the DMV, those fees (taxes) you would have collected on Friday, they will be collected another day. You see as taxpayers we don’t get the option to not pay taxes, unlike the State which can decide not to refund overpayment of taxes.

"It feels like we're being punished because we chose a career in state government," said Shelia Byars, 47, a hearing officer at the Department of Motor Vehicles in Van Nuys.

The Pursuit of Happiness
The third unalienable right stated as the purpose of government is the one which explicitly requires citizens to put forth effort. While life and liberty will not be maintained with out a conscientious practice thereof, “The pursuit of happiness,” contains with in it the expression of an individual responsibility to strive for pleasure.
So often today people are expecting things to be handed to them. Whether necessary or frivolous everything should be provided by government. The events of the past few days should cry a warning to those who are paying attention that government help always has a negative quality to it.
Executives of the big three automotive industry are in Washington, hat in hand, hoping that the government will bail them out of the mess that they are in. They are responsible for their own short sighted management of their affairs. There are very real consequences for the mismanagement of a major corporation. Lay offs, loss of capital, harm to the national economic welfare. That is why executives receive executive pay.
So having failed in their duties to guide and manage their Corporations to profitability or even viability, these men are in Washington, begging for the government to help them out. The Congress says, “Sure, glad to help, let us just give you what you need to keep afloat.” Not. They are willing to help with the proviso of them being able to meddle in an industry for which they have no credentials. The only history that congress has in the economic sphere is negative. If you can think of a single instance where government involvement in an industry was ever anything but disastrous, please feel free to list the examples in your comments.
So in the pursuit of happiness it is incumbent upon the pursuers to do it in a self reliant fashion or the pursuit will be infringed upon by external forces, most notably government. Government ain’t in the happy business. There is no Department of Happiness, there is no Happiness depot that the government has the keys to. If you wish to be happy, get to it. You have been equipped with all that is necessary for this pursuit by the same creator who endowed you with the right to seek happiness.

Liberty
My county tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing.
Second only to Life, Jefferson listed liberty as one of the aims of American Independence, and yes, a God given right. Liberty is to the human spirit what air is to the human body. We inhale it’s fragrance and revel in it’s power.
As a child I learned of the horrors of communism, we were told that in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics people were tested as children and assigned to a job in which they would serve the republic. A drudgery relieved only by death or disablement. Perhaps my juvenile way of understanding magnified this terror but to believe that Government would chart your life from cradle to the grave seemed an abomination to all that I hold dear.
Our liberties in America are bounded by our government and we are free to change our Government and laws as we see fit. If a portion of our Constitution becomes onerous we have the means to change it as well. If we become dissatisfied with our station in life we are free to change it. If we dislike the weather we are free to seek a better climate.
Liberty is an awesome responsibility because it makes us all individually accountable for our actions. We are free to press to the pinnacle of success and we should be free to fall in the chasm of abysmal failure.
We are free to speak our mind, but with that freedom comes the power to impede the freedom of others. You are free to express yourself, but it is incumbent upon each of us to refrain from shouting down or stifling some one else’s free speech.
When I witness anyone stepping on another’s freedom of speech it screams louder than words that they do not believe in the superiority of their position. If your logic is unassailable then you allow your enemies to dash themselves upon the ramparts. The free exchange of ideals can only work absent physical or emotional intimidation. A majority achieved does not imply superiority and the lone voice of dissent may just be the only voice present with the solution to our problems.
